Our Story

BROOKLYN KITCHEN is the latest iteration of Riviera Hospitality Group’s long and rich history. We started out as a vibrant neighborhood restaurant more than 125 years ago and today we are a creative and modern prepared meals business.

In 1895, Antoinette and Zachary Cavitolo opened a family-style restaurant on Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York. Neighbors and strangers alike would come for the homestyle cooking and warm hospitality.

Today, BROOKLYN KITCHEN is a 4th generation prepared meals company, still owned by the Cavitolo family and still making all of our meals at our original Brooklyn location. Nowadays, we bring tasty, restaurant-quality meals directly to the homes of our members in New York and surrounding states – our “new” neighborhood!

Our business has remained community and family-focused, adapting with the times, using creativity, and inspired by a history of culinary and service excellence. These principles drive us to be the best that we can be each and every day as we deliver Food That Matters!

1895

Zaccarino and Antoinette Cavitolo open a neighborhood restaurant in Brooklyn.

1935

Riviera is formally named, adding a dance and catering hall to the restaurant.

1952

Son Andy Zack Cavitolo becomes Manager. The Riviera is the first catering hall to offer “white glove service.” Mother Antoinette continues as Head Chef 40 years after arriving in America.

1969

Andy’s wife Lucille joins the kitchen staff. Customers rave about a family manicotti recipe that takes 3 days to prepare.

1985

Andy and Lucille’s son Zachary, and his wife Patricia, take over management of the Riviera.

2012

Superstorm Sandy destroys the Riviera. Out of the destruction a new Riviera rises.

2013

Andrew Cavitolo, son of Zach and Pat, teams up with friend and event producer Bobby Stern to create an off premises catering company. Wins BizBash’s “Caterer of the Year” award.

2016

Riviera is featured in Forbes Magazine, caters Super Bowl 50, and is recognized by the International Live Events Association.

2020

Pandemic shuts down the country. Out of the unknown a new vision and mission for Riviera is borne.

MAR
2020

A bright light is shined on food insecurity, especially among older adults, bringing the issue out of the shadows. Riviera delivers prepared meals to 70% of NYC’s older adult population through GetFoodNYC and then continues to serve older adults thereafter.

2021

The United States evacuates 15,000 civilian allies from the war in Afghanistan. Riviera is selected to provide 3 meals/day for 6 months at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey. Riviera develops an Afghan and Halal menu.

2022

Riviera awarded a prepared meals contract for 7 shelters managed by the Department of Homeless Services.

2023

Riviera wins the first of many K-12 School feeding contracts.

2024

Riviera re-brands Older Adult Meal division as “Brooklyn Kitchen”

Today

Riviera and BROOKLYN KITCHEN serve prepared meals to over 35 shelters, K-12 students in 4 states (New Jersey, Georgia, NY and Michigan), and Older Adults throughout New York.
