Warm Apple-Cinnamon Waffles with Applesauce-Yogurt Swirl
Uses: waffles, apple, applesauce, yogurt
Ingredients:
- 2 waffles
- 1/2 apple, thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup plain or flavored yogurt
- 2 tablespoons applesauce
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- Tiny pinch of salt
Instructions:
- Toast the waffles according to package directions until hot and lightly crisp. Place them on a plate while you prepare the topping.
- Put the apple slices in a small skillet with 1 tablespoon water, cinnamon, and a tiny pinch of salt. Cook over medium-low heat for 3 to 5 minutes, stirring once or twice, until the apple softens but still holds its shape.
- Stir the yogurt and applesauce together in a small bowl until lightly swirled; it does not need to be completely smooth.
- Spoon the warm apples over the waffles and finish with the applesauce-yogurt mixture. Serve immediately while the waffles are still crisp.
Good for: A cozy early-fall breakfast with warm cinnamon apples, cool creamy yogurt, and crisp waffles.
Optional: Sprinkle a little granola over the top for crunch, or add a few small orange pieces after the apples are cooked.
